Using my strengths in my teaching

2.2.3 Reflect
My understanding of intelligence and in relation to learning, i summarize it as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skill. in other words its the mental ability involved in reasoning.

I uniquely mix my intelligence through varieties of approaches and procedures while am teaching.

First and fore most i demonstrating and become exemplary to the learners. Am an art and craft teacher when i give learners work to do, for example like drawing a flower. I first draw some abstracts (hands on) of the flower to show the learners that it is possible more especially to some who feel that  it is  difficult,or some even think that even teachers can not do it. By doing so, most of the learners understand more by seeing than just listening.

I do encourage learners to interact with each other, getting some ideas of how a fellow learner has done it. In Art and Craft different individual have different approaches, skills and talents. so it is good for some one to buy a leaf from some one but not coping directly.

I normally identify the learners who need special attention and i help them more much as in technology it is advisable to treat all the learners the some despite of their unique needs and challenges. some learners have different back ground and interest so you can find a slow learners or any one with other problems.
I occasionally display the best pieces of work on boards a round the class. this creates competition between the learners thus end up getting learners improving. And these pieces are referred to while am teaching I normally get to know of my students' mix of intelligence better by evaluating every after a while. I ever ask learners questions on different covered topics. I give home works to learners so as they can do the work with out supervision.so when i find that the learners home work is good, that automatically means that my mix of intelligence are better. Last but not the least, i do give assessment or test them on the covered area of work. and after bringing the results, automatically some comes when they are not good. so this help some learners to pull up their socks.

A REFLECTION ON 2.1.4
How was it for you
  • As a teacher, to what extent do you create learning experiences in your classes?
After acquiring some knowledge in ICT integration, i appreciated the fact that feeding the learners with information with out involving them with other activities is out dated. Learners should be encouraged to research, discuss, interacting with teacher, each other. devices and above all reporting or giving of feeding back.

In my class i normally give tasks to individuals, groups, or the whole class a research content and after, report back the out come to group or class discussion. When discussing normally request the presenter to demonstrate or even give some references if possible.

I have frequently involved my learners in an open interaction, to speak out their minds on what has taken place. and ever write or ask questions every after a topic.

I do normally take them out side the class room for some demonstration and real study. for example in Art and craft, it is better to explain how to draw a landscape when the learner is not just imagining. its better some times to tour out for a visual experience or learning.

  • Is there anything you can immediately in your teaching to make your lessons more authentic learning experiences?
One of the thing which i can do is to start employing some of the available devices and materials  which are with in our reach.for example magazines, smart phones, embedded devices, desk tops and etc.

To use smart boards for demonstration dueto its endless advantages it offers to the user.one of it is that it is programmable, which is one of the advantages of the computer.

All in all it is better encourage learners to collaborate in groups, since understanding individual is some how not easy.

It is also important to impart in them the culture of accounting for any thing done or reflecting.

 Experiences of True Learning

To succeed in life one must be prepared to work whole heatedly, until others get the courage to join in and your commitment to the truth must never waver.

My experiences of true learning is going to be best on my Academic tour in the United Kingdom.   In November 2008 its the month and the year which i and a fellow teacher went for that mentioned tour.
It was the first time for both of us to go to Europe.

I remember the day when we landed at heath low Air port. it was one of my memorable day.we reached when the weather was terribly cold to an extent that it was in negative six (-6) compared to the 32 degree we ever enjoy annually in my beloved country. before going to UK i used to call it fake, but after its no longer fake.I will not go to deep since am highlighting only the learning part.

Sylvia Bahiga/s problems were about the English language and what ever, which she maneuvered with courage and succeed. Mine was about rotated on the accent of two tutors.and to my supplies both of them were black people. Other facilitators were white people and they used to speak the native British English which was very clear even if you listen to it while sleeping you can be in position to understand .One problem which was about the other tow black people were from America they were neither speaking English nor Jamaican. so it became a problem and they were very fast in their facilitation
In that class i was not the only one who was not understanding those two gentlemen. During our break interaction we realized that a good number of the learners were not understanding their accent . we used to be separated  into groups and each group had a leader. so our group leader had to reach our concern to the facilitators and they were advised to slow down.they reached an extent of using signs and even asking ever, have understood and so no and so fourth.

so it was a collective efforts which helped us to reach our concern to the leaders. the school was so big and it had all the facilities you could think of and the teacher and the students were so lovely and supportive

After some weeks i started enjoying what ever was going on, the issue of the language was no longer on table so it was an enjoying moment and a very interesting experience of true learning.
